This extremely unique cognac is an assembly of very old cognacs, distilled and created more than 60 years ago by "Mamie Simone". Only 91 bottles, just like Simone's blessed age. This rarity was announced on 29/07/2024, which was Simone's birthday. All bottles come from the private family reserve of Olivier and Léa Laurichesse. Simone, Olivier Lauricesse's grandmother, was the maitre de chais of the cognac house "Paul Beau". This exceptional cognac is a tribute to Simone and her life's work! Cheers!
Notes: Very rich aromatic nose of dried plums and sweet wood. Toffee and raisins. Mocha coffee and ripe apricot. A wonderfully soft but long finish. Old style cognac!
Very recently (March 2023) Olivier and Léa were able to take over the Paul Beau brand, the exploitation of the vineyards continued, but no bottles have been bottled under the Paul Beau label in the last 8 years. This is because the approximately "2000-casks stock" was sold. These unique 91 bottles come from a very small private stock of exceptional eau-de-vies that the family has been able to preserve.
Olivier and Léa, together with the brand name Paul Beau, have also been able to obtain a limited stock of VSOP and VIELLE RESERVE (see further in our webshop), which was bottled more than 8 years ago, as well as some beautiful cellars that were once part of Paul Beau's heritage.
About the producer:
Founded at the end of the 19th century by Samuel Beau. After his death in 1914, his son Paul continued the company, together with his wife Denise. He expanded the vineyard and modernized the company. Until 1977 they sold their cognacs, which they had matured for several years, to the cognac houses, mainly Rémy Martin, but from that year onwards the cognac houses only wanted to buy young eau-de-vie. This posed a problem because of the large stocks of old cognacs. That is why from that year on they started selling cognac under their own label, in addition to delivering it to homes.
After the death of Paul Beau, the company was continued by the brothers Michel and Guy Laurichesse (father of Olivier Laurichesse) and the rest of the family was also active there. Michel is married to Collette, one of Paul's adopted daughters. Guy has now stopped and his son Olivier has partly taken over from him. Olivier worked for Paul Beau for 12 years and started his own company in 2015: Laurichesse. In 2023, Olivier and his wife Léa took over the Paul Beau brand again.
At one point in history they had a total of +/- 100 hectares of vineyards in the Grande Champagne. They also used to have a vineyard in the Borderies, but that was sold in 1964.
