At Malternative Belgium, we're always looking for special gems that tell the story of the Charentes. This vintage Pineau des Charentes from 1995 by Rémi Landier is such a discovery that made our hearts beat faster. This Pineau des Charentes comes from 1995 and matured lovingly in old cognac casks. For almost 30 years, this Pineau was given time to develop into something extraordinary.
Tasting notes:
In the glass, a warm golden amber color shines, immediately revealing that we're dealing with something special. When you put your nose to the glass, you're greeted by a wealth of aromas: juicy pear and apricot dance together with sweet honey tones and a hint of walnut. Through years of aging, this Pineau has also acquired some of those delicious 'old cognac' characteristics. On the palate, this Pineau is soft and slightly syrupy, beautifully evolving towards floral notes of acacia and linden blossom, balanced by refreshing vibrancy. The rich flavors continue to unfold, revealing hints of aged Cognac, honey, and dried apricot. The finish is long and luxurious, characterized by a Charentais rancio with a magnificent exotic palette reminiscent of the grandeur of Sauternes or vintage Jurançon wines.
About the producer:
Maison Rémi Landier is a cognac house with a special history dating back to the Benedictine monks of the Royal Abbey of Bassac. In the mid-20th century, Rémi Landier acquired their historic farm "Chai des Pères" in Cors. The Landier family, settled in Cors since 1890, cherishes this special heritage and honors the monastic tradition by using the "PAX" emblem. The Rémi Landier brand was established in 1973 by Rémi Landier and his son Jean-Yves. As winegrowers, distillers, and cellar masters, they have dedicated themselves to making elegant, delicate, and powerful cognacs. They also produce refined Pineau des Charentes. Their focus is on authenticity and sharing their passion for taste with both connoisseurs and newcomers.
Since 2019, Géraldine Landier, the fifth generation of the family, has been at the helm of the company. As granddaughter of Rémi and daughter of Jean-Yves, she continues the family tradition. In her role as general director, she is responsible for all innovations and new developments within the family business. Her background in cognac, liqueurs, and aged spirits (having worked 13 years at La Maison Du Whisky, France) contributes to the ongoing development of this authentic cognac house.
