In the shadows of the cognac cellars of Michel Guilloteau (producer from Métairies with the blessed age of 88 who transferred his activities to Courvoisier in 2021) rested a true treasure: an exceptional red Pineau des Charentes that took no less than a quarter of a century to reach maturity. This “L'éclat de Rouge” tells the story of patience, craftsmanship and the special ability of time to transform something “ordinary” into something extraordinary.
This 25-year-old red Pineau is distinguished by its remarkable complexity. The long cask aging has created a perfect harmony between the natural sweetness of the grapes and the developed acidity. Where young Pineau often tends toward the sweet, this veteran has found a refined balance that will please even the most discerning aficionado. We ourselves are sometimes not wildly enthusiastic about a red pineau due to being too sweet, but this one is so different!
tasting notes:
Upon pouring, the rich, ruby color with amber reflections immediately reveals itself - visual evidence of its ripe age. The bouquet is rich in dried fruit, with subtle notes of plums, figs and a hint of vanilla from the oak. The palate is a small wonder of balance: the natural sweetness is perfectly tempered by pleasing acidity, resulting in a complex, long finish that continues to captivate.
